This project began in the Spring of 2020 as a three-week assignment for my Advanced Digital Sculpting: Creating Environments and Props class. My task was to recreate a relatively ornate piece of furniture in Zbrush. I chose this lovely commode because its floral embellishments and magnificent sculptural metalwork such as the winged ladies and lions feet appealed to me.
This ornate commode was based on one of famed cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle most iconic pieces. I sculpted this project in Zbrush, retopologized it in Maya, textured it in Substance painter, and rendered it in Marmoset Toolbag 3
I learned a lot of great sculpting techniques while I worked on this project and am excited to work on more ornate subjects in the future.

I gathered reference photos from both my primary subject (The Commode from the MET) but I also looked at some of Boulle's other works to better understand his art style.
